Roof Leak Repair in Round Rock: The Stain Is Not Where the Leak Is
Water travels along decking and rafters before it drips. Fixing a leak starts with tracing it back.
First Things First
Put a bucket under it and move what you can.
Note when it leaks: every rain, or only with wind from one side.
The entry point is usually a pipe, a wall joint, a valley or a skylight.
A stain on the ceiling marks where water finally fell. It may have entered several feet up the slope and run down the underside of the deck to get there. That is why a leak gets traced from inside the attic as well as from the roof.
When it leaks matters. A leak in every rain points to an opening. A leak only in a hard, wind-driven storm points to flashing or a wall joint that normally stays dry.

What a Proper Leak Repair Includes
The entry point is found, shown to you in a photo and repaired with the right part: a new boot, new flashing, new shingles. Sealant alone on a failed part is a delay.
Wet decking is checked. A sheet that has gone soft is replaced, because nails will not hold in it.
Inside, wet insulation is pulled back so the area can dry. Ceiling and paint work comes after, once the next rain shows that the repair held.
Houses here sit on slabs with the attic directly above the living space. A roof leak has nowhere to go but the ceiling, so speed matters more than it might seem.
Questions About Roof Leak Repair
Can a roof leak wait until the weather is better?
A tarp can hold for a while. The repair itself should not wait, because wet decking and insulation get worse with each rain.
How does a contractor find a leak?
By looking in the attic for staining on the deck, then checking the roof above and upslope from that spot. Sometimes a hose test is used.
Is a leak a sign I need a new roof?
Not by itself. One leak at a pipe or a wall is a repair. Leaks in several places on an old roof are a different conversation.
