Wind Damage Roof Repair in Round Rock
Wind takes ridge caps and edge shingles first. The damage that matters most is often the shingle that lifted and lay back down.
What to Look For After a Blow
Missing shingles are obvious. Creased ones are not.
Check the ridge, the edges and the side the wind came from.
Cover exposed decking the same day.
Shingles are held by nails and by a strip of adhesive that bonds each one to the row below. Strong wind breaks that bond, flips the tab up and bends it. When the wind drops, the tab lies flat again with a crease across it. It looks fine from the street and will tear off in the next storm.
Ridge caps sit at the highest, most exposed line of the roof. When a few go missing, the gap is open along the very top of the house.

Round Rock Has Had Real Wind
On March 21, 2022, a tornado rated EF2 by the National Weather Service tracked 29 miles across Travis and Williamson counties in about forty minutes. It began just southwest of the I-35 and SH 45 interchange and crossed Round Rock. The Weather Service's survey notes roofs torn off several residences.
Most wind damage here is far less dramatic: a spring thunderstorm with strong straight-line gusts, or limbs brought down by ice. The repair is the same in kind and smaller in scale.

How It Gets Fixed
- Temporary cover. A tarp fastened over exposed deck until the weather clears.
- Replace what is gone or creased. New shingles are woven into the existing rows and sealed by hand.
- Re-cap the ridge. New caps, nailed and sealed, with the ridge vent checked beneath.
- Check the edges. Drip edge and the first row at eaves and rakes, where wind gets underneath.
- Check the deck. A branch that punctured shingles has usually cracked the wood too.
If shingles are coming off a roof that is only a few years old, ask about the nailing. Shingles nailed too high, or with too few nails, let go in winds they are rated to survive. With no city inspection on re-roofs here, that is a question worth raising with whoever installed it.
Questions About Wind Damage Roof Repair
Shingles blew off my roof. Is it an emergency?
If bare wood or underlayment is showing, it needs covering before the next rain. Call and say that decking is exposed.
How can I tell if a shingle is creased?
Look for a faint horizontal line across the tab an inch or so below the row above, sometimes with granules missing along it. Binoculars from the yard help.
Can a few shingles be replaced without redoing the slope?
Usually yes, if the surrounding shingles are still flexible enough to lift without cracking.
Shingles in the Yard?
Say whether any wood is showing so the request is treated as urgent.
